JULY 2008 W4 ALERT Leading CE Companies Plug into Wireless “Special Interest Group” Created to Develop New Standard Utilizing WHDI™ Technology <July 23, 2008>AMIMON Inc., Hitachi Ltd., Motorola Inc., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Sharp Corporation, and Sony Corporation announced that they will be forming what they call a “special interest group” to promote the development of a new industry standard for wireless MRAV and control thru the Wireless Home Digital Interface (WHDI™). The participants hope to set the standard yet in 2008.
Utilizing a video-modem that operates in the 5 GHz unlicensed band, the technology is said to deliver uncompressed HD video up to 1080P wirelessly. The group also says that the signal is encrypted to ensure security and can deliver the signal throughout a typical home.
Dr. Paul Moroney of Motorola, in a prepared statement, said, “WHDI delivers the robust performance that wireless connections must have to meet and exceed consumer demands. This new standard will help ensure optimal video delivery in the home.”
Adds Dr. Yoav Nissan-Cohen, chairman and CEO of AMIMON, “The development of the new standard will ensure that when consumers purchase CE devices and take them home, they will enjoy a fast, easy and hassle-free wireless connection that delivers the highest quality. The WHDI standard’s objective is to enable an enriched customer experience with multi-vendor interoperability.”
