Pioneer to Custom Installers: This One's for You!
New Projector Targeted for CI Channel

<May 7, 2008>Pioneer launched a series of releases today on a slew of products in a slew of categories (What is a slew, anyway?). I’ll leave it to the mainstream press to give you the exhaustive rundown of all of these various and sundry new products.

But one release caught my attention. Titled, “Pioneer Expands KURO Display Strategy Beyond Living Room Delivering New 1080P Projector Technology for Home Cinema,” it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, does it?

The sub-heading doesn’t do much better, “New High-Definition Elite Projector Embodies Unrivaled KURO Performance and Evokes Emotional Entertainment Experiences.”

Evokes emotional entertainment experiences? We’re in an alliterative mood aren’t we?

So why does this release interest me? First of all, Pioneer has actually gotten some pretty good reviews on their KURO line with ultra black performance. I saw it a few months ago in their plasma TV product line. Now, Pioneer has launched this technology in a projector product.

What’s interesting is that the release goes on to say, “Developed specifically for the custom-install market, the Elite KURO projector is configured for high-end cinematic installations and supports advanced calibration.” I know many companies want the support of the custom channel; few come right out and say it in their releases.

Something else is interesting about this product…it is based on LCoS. Now there is nothing wrong with LCoS technology…in fact it looks fabulous. However, LCoS has been losing momentum as manufacturers look beyond it to new technologies such as OLED and other emerging technologies.

However, the unit features a wide lens shift capacity, dual HDMI 1.3 support, and a wide range of adjustments to “produce the finest picture possible.” The unit will ship in June with a suggest retail price of $9,000 and will only be available through Elite dealers.

Elite & KURO...pretty sweet. So how about it installers, ready to sign up?
