TiVo and Walt Disney Studios to Offer Movie Rentals to TiVo Subscribers
New agreement expands offerings to more than 30,000 titles
<May 28, 2008>TiVo and Disney-ABC Domestic Television strike a deal that will make Disney’s stable of movies available for download and rental to a broadband connected TiVo DVR. The service is available through a cooperative arrangement with CinemaNow, a digital entertainment provider of high-quality Hollywood movies and TV shows.
The companies will offer the movies for a twenty-four hour rental in standard definition. High definition titles will also be available for rental through the program.
Says Tara Maitra, Vice President and GM of Content Services at TiVo, Inc., “Adding Disney movies really delivers on TiVo’s promise to offer the best television entertainment experience with unlimited content choices that are easy to navigate across broadcast, cable, and broadband using one device, one remote, and one user interface.”
Adds Dan Cohen, executive vice president of pay television and interactive media, Disney-ABC Domestic Television, “We’re pleased that their [TiVo’s] subscribers will be able to enjoy our extensive catalog of new releases and classic library titles.”
