Company Launches Ten New Models With New Technologies in Japan
<Nikkei-TOKYO><April 10, 2008>The Nikkei reports today that Toshiba plans to release ten new LCD TV models in four new product series, starting in late April. Sporting new technologies and features, the new televisions range in screen size from 32- to 52-inches.
The story describes one new feature which, although not specifically named, adjusts the picture automatically based on the viewing room environment such as day and night settings.
Two of the new series, one mid-range and one high-end, will feature built-in 300GB hard drives which are said to be able to record up to twenty-nine hours of digital high-definition programming.
In addition to this, two of the series will feature a technology developed by Dolby Labs and announced at the January 2007 CES called “Dolby Volume.” This technology works with advanced algorithms to provide consistent sound levels between commercials and programming, or when changing channels. Dolby Volume also applies a loudness adjustment when listening at low volume levels.
Finally, the new televisions will also be Internet ready.
Prices for the new televisions are reported to be between 160,000 to 600,000 yen (approximately $1575 to $5900). There were no specifics given as to whether the company plans to distribute these products in the U.S. market.
